Kamden finally glanced back up to meet his eyes, his teeth digging into his bottom lip as he waited for his response, looking equal parts nervous and hopeful in a way that probably would’ve made Kyrell’s heart flutter if he still had a pulse.
Because while their first and second meetings didn’t exactly get off to a great start, here Kamden was, looking him dead in the eye despite his fear, something that the Kyrell of a day, a month, a year ago could’ve only dreamed of.
