It was an ornament kit, with an ink pad and a bright red frame that read My First Christmas along with the year. “How cute. You take a baby’s hand or footprint and put it in the frame after.”
Jayce propped his chin on Viktor’s shoulder, leaning over him to look down at it. “Smart idea,” he replied, one hand coming up to trace the mock footprint that decorated the package. “It’s so tiny.”
“Ah—it says it’s ‘perfect’ for newborns.” Viktor read. He let out a soft hum, almost bordering on a purr. “Very sweet, hm?”
Viktor reached out to put it back on the rack but Jayce’s hand gently grabbed his wrist, stilling it. “…We could buy it, y’know.”
Viktor turned his head, giving Jayce an amused look. “Right. For the newborn we have?”
“For the newborn we could have.” Jayce countered.

Summary
When Jayce lifts his arm in the air, Viktor takes his cue to fold into the freed space. He curls himself around Jayce’s side, lying his head down on his soft, warm chest.
Viktor closes his eyes, his body falling into the comfort of their shared moment. He feels Jayce run the back of his fingers over Viktor’s cheek, and Viktor hums on an exhale of contentment.
“Thank you, Jayce.”
Jayce hums, tilting his head and pressing his lips against the soft, damp hair atop Viktor’s head.
“What for, baby?” He whispers.
Viktor smiles and nuzzles further into Jayce’s chest.
“For always making me feel safe. Loved. Cared for, even in pleasure. It means more than I can say.”
Jayce smiles, humming in agreement. He doesn’t need to respond, Viktor knows the words you’re welcome are constantly on the tip of his tongue, in his touch, in everything he does.

“What about in bed? What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done with someone before?”
Jayce doesn’t realize the words are out of his mouth before it’s too late. He blushes and coughs to try and cover his embarrassment, earning a chuckle from Viktor.
Why do I want to know so badly?
“Ah, okay. So there was one time I took a shower with some random one-night stand last year.”
Jayce chuckles. “That’s it? That’s not crazy.”
Viktor lightly smacks the back of his head. “I’m not done, you imbecile.” He sets the handle of liquor down onto the floor, Jayce realizing that in only a few minutes they drank nearly half of the bottle.
“As I was saying, we were taking a shower together and he asked me to piss on him.”
Jayce bursts out laughing.
“Oh my God, no way! That is crazy! What did you say to him!?”
Viktor looks down at Jayce, tilting his head, confused. “I didn’t say anything. I pissed all over him.”

Are you hurting?” Jayce asked gently. Viktor tended to answer that question in two ways these days—either with a resigned sigh and affirmation, or a scathing look and remark at Jayce for suggesting that there could be any alternative. Jayce certainly didn’t fault Viktor when the latter happened, knowing that if Viktor was snapping at him, he had to have been truly uncomfortable.

Summary
Viktor didn’t end up meeting his future husband in any of the usual places. Not an online dating app, not a club and not even through any mutual friends (not that he had very many of his own if he was being honest). Instead, Viktor met Jayce in the community garden at the end of his street.
Viktor is lost, having to rebuild his life after major surgery right after finishing university. Determined not to wallow in self-pity, he signs up to volunteer at the community garden at the end of his road, purposefully choosing a section that's been abandoned and struggling.
It's not just the plants that start thriving.

Summary
What Jayce first ascribed to suppressants (and sheer willpower) was actually the byproduct of a serious medical condition. Viktor hasn't had a heat since he was a teenager. Every year Viktor’s hypothalamus tested the dry well of his fuel reserves and elected to divert any runoff from ovulation to more vital bodily functions (say, breathing).
Worse: It’s common knowledge that heats and ruts are strongest at their outset. Hormones fluctuate over the years; cycles settle; the body calibrates to accommodate the unruly roommate of ovulation. But Viktor’s body doesn’t have the benefit of practice. Somehow—against every natural law—Viktor, about a side glance from death and as far as a decade from his last heat, is about to nosedive into an induction furnace.

When the temporary energy boost from his first Shimmer experiment triggers a heat, Viktor resolves to suffer the consequences alone. Needless to say, things don't go as planned.
