Summary
“...Dustin was being very mean,” El says cautiously. Her eyebrows are knit together in that way that always makes Max want to hold her and tell her it’ll be okay.
“He’s been weird, since… everything.”
Lucas thinks that he’ll calm down once Eddie is back on his feet. Max thinks that he’s being a selfish little drama queen, but she doesn’t really have a leg to stand on when it comes to self-pitying bullshit, so she’s been biting her tongue.
“That doesn’t mean it’s okay to… talk to Steve like that. Like he’s stupid.”
“Well…” Max tries to joke, and El glares. “Sorry.”
“You were not helping.”
Max puts down her hairbrush. She’s… maybe also been weird. Since everything.

Summary
Dan can’t help his eyes from drifting back to the young lady every time he looks up from the cinématographe. Even in the dark, her silhouette stands out, her large puffed sleeves creating a slight gulf in the mass of people on either side of her. He feels as if that gulf might exist regardless; there is something about her, something untouchable.
There simply isn’t much for his mind to do as he cranks the machine, so he often finds himself inventing stories about the people who pass through. This lady, he believes, is likely an heiress of some sort. Not an oil man, her father, but something more intellectual—publishing, perhaps, or something fashionable for the rich that is far more lucrative than Dan knows. Her cape is trimmed in a lush fur.
or: Blair, Dan, and the moving picture.

Summary
Her thoughts, in order, are as follows:
1. This isn’t a great time to be doing performance art, considering how few people are around.
2. This is not performance art, and in fact appears to be somebody having an even more miserable night than her.
3. This is Dan Humphrey.
It’s the final thought that jolts her into action. She picks up the pace as well as she can in her pumps, and as she draws nearer to the all-but-nude form tied to a pillar, a sense of nausea settles in her gut.
Dan is only wearing underwear, even his socks missing, and his bare feet shift uncomfortably on the concrete. He has a very slim waist, she notices, and hates herself for the observation.

Summary
Blair is riding a Vespa through the streets of Rome, clinging to the back of a man who smells remarkably like the bright pink cupcakes that Serena once brought her from a bakery in Brooklyn, when the ringing of a period-inaccurate cell phone invades her poor, delicate ears.
She answers without even pushing up her sleep mask.
“Serena,” she mumbles, thinking, God, please don’t let her be high, and a very frantic, very male voice responds, “It’s me. Uh, Dan. Humphrey.”

Summary
Four months after he comes out on the floor of the Family Video bathroom, Robin sits him down on his bed.
“Okay, I’m gonna suggest something completely insane, but I’ve actually put a lot of thought and research into it and I need you to hear me out.”
Steve squints suspiciously at her, but shrugs agreeably. “Yeah, okay.”
“We should get married.”

Summary
Steve loves it. He loves watching the band, the way they catch each other’s eyes and smile, all of them moving to the same rhythm–the one they’re creating together. He loves the steady heartbeat of the drummer, the way he bobs his head and grins as all the other musicians follow his lead. He loves the female backup singer with the long, curly red hair, dressed almost like a female Springsteen in tight black jeans and a white tank top. He’s mesmerized by Clarence Clemons, muscular arms gilded with sweat after two hours onstage but still showing no sign of slowing down, blowing his heart out into his gleaming saxophone. But most of all, he loves the Boss himself.
In the summer of 1984, Steve takes Nancy to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on the Born in the USA tour. He learns something about himself along the way.

Summary
So Starcourt was a mess. And Steve? Yeah, Steve is a mess. But he has Robin and he has his friends, and he has... a cat? Sure, the hot metalhead he keeps running into might hate him and he flinches when men get too close now- but he's got this.
Really!
