The sky was dark and shrouded, the clouds always bore foreboding doom. It wasn't as if they tried to make it miserable, Hawkins just.. was. Jonathan would argue that it always had been, but Steve knew better. Steve knew his Hawkins.

“Steve!” Dustin hisses. “You’re literally Rapunzel!”
“I am not!”
“Yes, you are!”
“How can I be Rapunzel if I’m standing right here, dipshit?” Steve fires back. “I’ve been driving you shitheads around all week! My Dad’s an asshole, sure, but wouldn’t I be locked up in some-some tower right now if I were Rapunzel!”
“But there are locks,” Hopper interrupts. “On all your windows, your clothes, your door.” Rage claws at his throat, ready to roar and tear into Richard Harrington. “Lucas said there’s no handle on the inside of your room.” Who modifies a door to trap a child?
Steve stares, slack-jawed as if he hit him. The boy closes his eyes, hands running through his hair, and the room falls quiet. “Ok,” he says after a moment. “I know how it looks, but my Dad switches to a regular handle when they leave. I’m not exactly stuck. And he only locks the door when I’m grounded!”

Mike blinks, watching the stars dancing along his vision and forming shapes and figures in the darkness.
“Nothing,” he murmured as he tried to gather something from his scattered thoughts. “I guess…I was just wondering why your mom decided to move you guys back here…After everything, I mean.”
Mike did not dare glance to his right, but he could feel Will’s gaze piercing the side of his face.
“...Why not?” Will finally offered, his gaze flitting to look up at the ceiling.
Mike chews on the bottom of his lip. “I mean…Why would you want to deal with it again?”
“Nobody wants to deal with this, Mike,” He stated, voice strong and stern, “...But…After everything that’s happened, and everybody who’s been affected by it…I don’t think we could just leave again…It affects everybody…And we have to stop him.”
Mike felt chills run up his spine.

Steve’s heart actually skipped a beat, and if it were under any other circumstances than Eddie, Steve would’ve assumed it was the slow start to another Episode. But Steve knew better. He’d been losing his footing, and going weak in the chest and stomach around Eddie constantly the last few months.

King Steve of Hawkins High was not just a stupid title, but also a memoir of his time as a strong drinker, Big-House-No-Parents-Regular-Party-Host chugging beers. After his fallout with Tommy and Carol and losing his popularity among the Hawkins High population, Steve thought his days as a party thrower were behind him.
As it turns out, befriending a lesbian band geek, a metal head, remaining friends with his ex, and somehow becoming friends with his ex’s new boyfriend was what he needed to start hosting gatherings with alcoholic beverages and loud music in his house again.
Or: Steve hosts a party. Robin gets too drunk to go home and stays overnight. Steve thinks taking care of Robin will be easy. Steve is too optimistic.

“How can I forget when you broke my camera because of it and ripped up the only photographic evidence of the upsidedown?”
Steve rolled his eyes. Typical Jonathan changing the narrative.
“Maybe I wouldn’t’ve torn up the evidence if it didn’t also contain evidence of you being a peeping Tom. You’re lucky I could’ve taken you to court.” -
