The moon was cold.
Realistically, he should have known that it would be. He had heard on the Discovery Channel that during the day, the moon is somewhere around 100 degrees Celsius (whatever that was) and -173 at night. If that were true, it stood to reason that at the time, the moon would’ve been cold.
