Summary
A wide grin spreads across Thor’s face, and he steps aside fully to let Loki and Sylvie pass by him into his house. “You didn’t even invite me to the wedding. I’m hurt,” he says, as he closes the door behind them.
Of course, this is not the beginning of the story, but somewhat closer to the middle, and it is the middle that captivates Loki much more than the beginning or the end.
Because the beginning and the end are already decided, and it’s whatever is between that does not matter at all in terms of the universe, and yet means everything to Loki.
(A divergence within Season Two, and a happy ending. Fic is complete.)

Summary
Loki had always been rather phlegmatic, especially in contrast to his brother, but in recent years he had become completely lethargic. He didn't feel like doing anything. If anyone were interested in him enough to ask him what he really wanted, he wouldn't be able to answer. Sometimes he just wanted to sleep and watch some mind-numbing movie to avoid thinking about his life.
In his most lucid moments, when he lay in bed unable to sleep, he sometimes realized that what he really wanted was a change. He wanted to shake off the terrible stagnation he had fallen into, he wanted to go out into the world being free, uninhibited and brave. Then he made unrealistic plans that he almost believed. But then another dull, gray day would come and Loki would come to terms with his life again. He didn't have enough energy to rebel, so he had to live with what he had. Anyway, it could have been worse.
Loki is married and quite depressed.

Summary
Their cosy bubble of domestic bliss is peaceful (encroaching storms aside) and deliberately idyllic. Sylvie hasn’t had much opportunity for calm in her life and Loki is more than willing to provide some to keep her content. Each day is the same in the most soothing of ways, and most importantly she is safe here. No harm is going to come to her within these walls, and whatever happens beyond them is immaterial.
(It really isn’t, but if things begin to fall apart outside then rewriting the last few pages to prevent that is a simple matter, and if reality somehow intrudes then Loki can fix that too. It’s almost too easy, actually, which is an unsettling fact that he refuses to examine closely.)

As he turned the key in the lock and twisted on his heel to walk down the stairs, Sylvie grabbed him by the neck and pressed him up against the wall. Her face was so close he could feel her hot breath on his mouth, her blazing eyes flickering with green glimmer.
Beautiful was the first thing that came to mind as their exhales met in the middle, followed by deadly.
Beautifully deadly.
"What the hell are you doing?" he mumbled as her hold tightened. Goosebumps covered his spine, her freezing hands scorching his skin.
“Do you remember what you promised, Midgardian?” she sneered, lifting the frying pan high in the air. He never thought he’d hate a piece of cookware more. “I need to find my crown.”
“Okay, okay,” he breathed out. “I have to go to work. I can't not go because… an Asgardian princess able to turn into a snake showed up in my bedroom last night and blackmailed me into cooperation."

Sylvie reunites with Loki at her McDonalds, and is shocked to see him alive after the Loom's explosion. During the late night they go to the bar, where a meaningful conversation ensues. With them being the only ones with memories intact, they realize the true power of their connection.
Fixing what's broken is hard. Hope is hard.
A thought began to creep in the back of her mind, maybe, just maybe— no. Sylvie wouldn’t fall into that rabbit hole again. Some kid was probably pulling a prank, that’s all. Her hand slipped off the door handle and she turned around the familiar warbling sound of a Timedoor opening.
And there he was. Loki was in front of her, alive, standing with his legs spread apart like an idiot. Sylvie didn’t know if she wanted to scream, cry, or run away.
He was alive. They did survive.
