Hanahaki was a human affliction. A pitiful little tragedy born from fragile hearts and unrequited love. The sort of melodramatic nonsense Amalthus used to mock openly whenever news of another lethal case surfaced.
Blades weren't supposed to suffer from things like that but then again, Malos had never done anything the way he was supposedly designed to.

The woods of Uraya were quiet, save for the soft noise of the glowing saffronia trees swaying in the night breeze and the sounds of the occasional passing animals.
Malos walked with an easy rhythm, a hand on his Monado, his boots barely making a sound on the soft earth and his eyes scanning the shadows. Beside him, Mikhail moved with effortless grace, fans closed but held tight in his hands, a quiet hum of anticipation in his posture.

He doesn’t look at her while he does it, not directly anyways. But he sees everything anyway.
The way she leans against the wall with her whole weight, the slight hitch in her breathing. The way her hair -usually so perfectly maintained- hangs in tangled, soaked strands that stick to her skin and clothes.

Jin followed him more quietly, his long cloak brushing the doorframe as he stepped onto the street. Mikhail lingered close behind, still half-asleep but visibly trying very hard not to look like it.
He yawned into his sleeve.
Malos glanced down at him.
“Try not to fall asleep standing up.”
“I’m not.”
Mikhail said defensively, though his voice still carried the sluggish weight of interrupted sleep.
Luna gave a quiet hum beside them.

Mikhail jolted awake with a gasp, adrenaline still surging through his veins. He blinked as his vision adjusted to the dim moonlight filtering through the bedroom window. The pale glow seeped past the frost-covered glass, painting the chamber in muted silver tones. It was quiet here, much too quiet.
His chest felt tight, breath catching in short bursts, skin damp with a cold sweat.

It’s pathetic, the way Malos doesn't even have to draw his own weapon for Minoth to be pressed against the wall, a cold dread filling his body. It was easy to be brave while fighting alongside the Paragon and the Ardainian Jewels, not to mention Mythra, but now, he is alone, and he is as good as dead. “You.”
There’s a quirk in Malos’s lips, revealing the man’s amusement. He dips his head forward and raises out his arms to either side of him, a dramatic flair to his tone that comes across even with a single word. “Me.”
