What if Harry had been expelled for a moment and therefore had to be sorted again?
What if they were both prepared for him to not return to the house of lions?

It was without known cause or intervention that Harry Potter awoke in the cupboard under the stairs of Number 4 Privet Drive the morning after finally defeating his lifelong foe. The last thing he remembered was succumbing to the exhaustion of the Battle of Hogwarts on a blanket in a corner of the castle somewhere after hours of mourning. And now here he was, seemingly in his relatives house with the early morning light that stretched from the front door down the hall to peek through the grate and under the slat of the door to his cupboard under the stairs.
