Lucas frowned. “Wait, we’re in the Upside Down?”
“It’s a lot warmer than before…” Will muttered.
“This is going to take a bit to explain, but…” Jane let out a deep breath. “I’m from the future.”
They all stared at her in pure silence.
“I think I just threw up in my mouth.” Dustin whispered.
OR: Eleven uses the powers of the Upside Down to go back in time and show her friends the dangers up ahead in hopes of saving them from their terrible fates.
OR OR: Author already wrote a 'Characters watch IT' fic and couldn't resist doing one for Stranger Things.
EDIT: Just want to say that while I did write the transcript of the show myself so it'd have descriptions unique to me, Stranger Things belongs to the Duffer Brothers. I do not own Stranger Things in any way.

"And it made her angry. A furious burning sob filled Nancy’s throat whenever she went down that spiral. There were just so many things wrong with it and above all, it wasn’t fair. It was so unfair that Nancy would never see her brother again.
That was Mike. He was always so present, it drove her crazy. Ever since Nancy had gotten picked up from her grandparent’s house and her mom passed back a little roll of blankets, he was there. Sprawled over the entire couch, stealing her quarters, interrupting all of Nancy’s phone calls.
And he never would be again."
Or, as all great authors do, Mike Wheeler published a masterpiece or two and killed himself on November 6th, 1997. Nancy is left with his Wikipedia page and a Christmas Eve of grief and anger.

“You gonna share?”
Mike looks up, leveling Max with a stare. She’s made herself at home at the edge of his bed, and she’s currently admiring the assortment of get well chocolates strewn across his bedside table.
“Aren’t you dead?” He asks bluntly, because what else is he supposed to do? He’s never been in this sort of situation before.
“Still an insensitive asshole,” she hums, selecting a KitKat bar and biting right through the middle. He can see her teeth through the torn up skin of her cheek. “Aren’t near-death experiences supposed to be character developing?”
“Aren’t death experiences supposed to be character eliminating?” He shoots back. Max graces him with an unimpressed stare.
After a traumatic night in the woods, Mike finds himself stuck with a ghostly Max Mayfield shadowing his every step. She brings with her a warning. On the night of the next full moon, he’s going to turn into a bloodthirsty killing machine. The only way to protect the people he loves is by taking himself out of the picture before then.
He has a lot he needs to get done in the meantime, including maybe finally telling his best friend how he feels before it’s too late.

“Oh.” Mike snapped his fingers, huffing out a laugh. “Oh, this is like that- that black and white movie my mom likes to put on at Christmas. The Jimmy Stewart one.” He stood a little taller, a wild look in his eyes. “Alright! I’ve learned my lesson! I can go home now, and appreciate my life, yada yada.”
Nothing happened. Mike snapped his fingers again, more urgently, before raising his voice in a yell.
“Lesson learned! I wanna go home!”
The world stayed as it was, broken and decayed, and Mike screamed into the cold, stale air.

Or: After a bad fight with his friends, Mike wakes up in an alternate reality that seems to be plunged into an apocalyptic nightmare.
