Summary
The next time Arthur doesn’t say thank you, Gwaine puts his hand on Merlin’s back, stroking down the long length of it, from the short curls of hair at the nape of his neck to the neat cinch of his waist.
“Thanks,” he praises, throwing a wink to an agape Arthur as he does. It’s wonderful.
So wonderful, in fact, that for the next fortnight, for every brusque word that spills from Arthur’s lips, Gwaine spills three sweet ones.

Summary
Affected by a rather nefarious - if delicious - bit of magic, Merlin is forced to navigate the complications of keeping a step ahead of Arthur (lest he ask the right questions), getting to the bottom of who's responsible (and why they'd want to trouble Gwen) and perhaps trying to understand why some of the truths he's working so diligently to avoid might not be the ones he expects...

Summary
When Arthur returns, he barely understands what's happening. First he'd been dead, and now he isn't. Alive, somewhere he doesn't recognize, with a Merlin who isn't quite the man he remembers. But it's Merlin, and that's as good a place to start as any.

Summary
There are many reasons that Merlin is a horrible manservant. Most of the time, Arthur is the one who suffers from Merlin’s unscrupulous behaviour, and it’s this fact only that has saved Merlin’s job. Because, as much as Merlin lacks the qualities for being a properly attentive manservant, his unique view on the nobility’s importance—namely, non-existent—means that he is probably the closest thing Arthur’s ever had as a friend.
Not that he’d tell Merlin, obviously.
Or: Five times Merlin wears Arthur's clothes out of need, and one time because Arthur asks him to.

Summary
"You didn't hear, then?" The man released a delighted, incredulous laugh, unknowingly drawing attention from neighbouring tables. The din in the tavern quietened. The scrape of cutlery and squeak of bar stools ceased as heads tilted towards them and ears pricked curiously. "It's only the biggest scandal of King Uther's magic-hating reign."
Arthur's hand tightened around his drink, causing the wooden flagon to creak under his grip. He glared down at the sticky, chipped veneer of the table.
"Spit it out already," the man's companion urged.
His voice dropped into a faux whisper, the way gossip-mongers always sounded when revealing an especially succulent rumour. “Prince Arthur of Camelot is a sorcerer.”

Summary
It’s a daily battle, reigning in his magic.
But there is something wrong with his magic and there is something wrong with Merlin.
As Merlin finishes working the buckles on Arthur’s armor, he feels a creaking in his bones.
The moment Balinor’s pulse finally stilled on the forest floor, Merlin’s magic changed. No longer is his magic a flower waiting to bloom in his cupped palms, it’s an animal backed into a corner waiting to sink its teeth into the ones who put it there. The mutt at his feet has lost its patience.
There’s a flint being struck under his skin, generating sparks, seeking dry brush to ignite and swallow in flame.
Merlin is terrified.
He isn’t a seer, never mastered the art of scrying, but even he knows something is looming over the horizon.
or Merlin’s Dragonlord powers let him shift into a dragon, things go to shit, and then there are more dragons.

Summary
The body of a Prince was not like anyone’s. His hand only ever held others in a firm handshake, and rarely without gloves. Sometimes he would raise the delicate hands of noble ladies to his lips for a brief kiss, but it was all out of propriety. He rarely touched others, but what was even rarer was others touching him. The only ones who dared were his knights, and even they only smacked his shoulder or patted his back in friendly roughhousing. Gripping each other’s arms before battle was the most heartfelt touch they exchanged. Lingering soft touches were not done. Any lingering touch on his person could be interpreted as political movements. After all, Arthur’s body wasn’t his own. It never had been. He was Camelot’s first and foremost. Even above his own needs and wants.

Summary
He hasn’t heard a single word of Merlin in over three summers, now — not since a mission from the King brought him close enough to the border with Essetir, affording Arthur just enough time to spend a day or two in Ealdor. Even then, the best Hunith could offer was an old letter from Merlin, filled with that familiar, barely legible scrawl, stating that Merlin was thinking of making his way towards the continent, that he’d grown restless traversing the far corners of Britannica.
He could be anywhere, at this point.
Five years ago, everything fell apart when Arthur had to help Merlin flee Camelot, narrowly avoiding execution.
Now, Arthur's a king on the run, Camelot's in danger, and despite months of searching, Merlin's still nowhere to be found.
