Summary
In 1940s Japan, twenty-six-year-old waiter Yeon Si-eun works at a restaurant and bar frequented by Korean soldiers passing through on their way to war. Openly flamboyant, Si-eun endures constant harassment from the rowdy men, until one soldier, Ahn Su-ho, takes an interest in him. What begins as a casual, secret fling while Su-ho waits for deployment slowly becomes more complicated for Si-eun. Though he knows their relationship must remain hidden from Su-ho’s fellow soldiers, his feelings deepen, and each time Su-ho leaves for base, Si-eun’s heart aches with the knowledge that their time together is fleeting.

Summary
When Humin finally gets to Hyuntak, Seongje blinks, as if he’s recalling something. Hyuntak notices Juntae’s paling complexion.
“Gotak,” Seongje says, trying the name on his tongue, “what’s his actual name?” he asks Humin. Humin looks at him weirdly before replying. Seongje chuckles, having an inside joke with himself, maybe.
“You’re married?” he asks, grinning. Hyuntak grabs Jinhee’s hand and shows him their matching rings. “Very interesting,” Seongje says the words slowly, syllable by syllable. Then, he looks pointedly at Juntae, who hasn’t said anything ever since he arrived. He tilts his head to the side.
“Isn’t that interesting, baby?”
Or: Hyuntak gets married and Juntae tends to his broken heart.

Juntae places a coaster in front of Seongje, followed by an almost half-filled glass; Something dark poured over the ice.
“It’s on the house.”
“Why?” Seongje stirs the drink in curiosity. It’s whisky, the only thing he drinks.
Juntae crosses his arms, leaning on the side of the bar. His shirt is way too tight to be decent, his hair is combed back, with some strands already falling onto his forehead, and he doesn't have his glasses on. He’s not the teenager Seongje remembers fighting back in high school.
“For the Daesung Bikes. I don’t want to owe you any favours.”
“Lamb,” Seongje grins. “I don’t need favours to ask things from you.”
