    He considers, briefly, lying. Richard would offer comforts that would serve as a small distraction to Damian until he could sleep this miserable day away, but the thought of continuing the pointless ruse for yet another year no longer seems worth the effort.

    "I was not the only child in the League," he states, and there's a part of him proud of how steady his voice is, and another part that screams at him that he's falling back into old habits, that he's not letting himself be. "There was another. We were allies, and we were enemies. We tried to kill each other with every opportunity, and we were best friends."

    Danny can’t believe he is doing it until the words stumble out of his mouth. It had to be the adrenaline or whatever else was pumped into his system or perhaps the desperation of trying not to go back to a group of people who treated him more like a thing than a person.

    “Can you pretend to be my sister?” Danny hush whispered to the black-haired woman he ended up against.

    The girl jumped a little in surprise at the 14-year-old suddenly coming to her with that question and grabbing her hand. Her brown eyes burrowed deep into a frown as if trying to find any hidden meaning in his words. Well…this was Gotham. She probably figured that he was about to rob her.

    “Please,” Danny begged. “These guys kidnapped me two days ago, and I finally got away.”

    The girl nodded silently and squeezed Danny’s hand in what he assumed was a gesture of comfort. She removed her leather jacket and ballcap and quickly helped him put them on as she guided him along the twists of the city. Danny was barely stumbling along. Everything had gone downhill so fast.
