Summary
"Ilya had loved him through his worst moments. Ilya had helped him find a therapist when he’d collapsed on the floor of their hotel bathroom after losing a particularly brutal game, scratching at his chest. Ilya had held him, even when Shane yelled at him because there was panic crawling under his skin and he felt as though it might claw its way out. Ilya had told him it was okay; that it didn’t make him a bad player to resent the spotlight sometimes, that it didn’t make him a bad teammate to hate the team when they were too loud and too drunk and too physical, that it didn’t make him a bad person to need space to breathe. Ilya saved him.
And look what you give him in return. You’re a shitty husband, Shane Hollander.
You don’t deserve his last name."

Summary
...I guess I should just say it. I was wondering if you'd—”
“I think we should stop seeing each other.”
“—like to come to my cottage this summer.”
The plate slips from Shane's hand and shatters on the kitchen floor.
Or: Shane doesn't get injured that night Montreal plays Boston. Ilya follows through on his plan to break things off with him. Well, he tries, at least.

Summary
“Remember when I came to the cottage for the first time and we had talk about passports and marriage?” The hand that was caressing the hair on his stomach stilled as he continued. “You say I am worse but you did not see the look on your face when I brought up marrying Svetlana.”
Shane removed his hand from Ilya’s stomach and sat up. Ilya swallowed as Shane fixed him with a similar look now. Only this time there was more fire in his gaze. It felt a little dangerous and Ilya probably would have been scared for his life if he weren't so turned on.

Summary
Shane’s cheeks burned red and he turned away from him, “sorry that I'm so boring all the time,”
“Mmh, not all the time,” Ilya smiled deviously, “sometimes you are very fun,”
The shorter raised an eyebrow at him, “yeah? And what are those times?”
“When we fuck,”

Summary
When the unsentimental financial imperative of the NHL sees Shane traded to the Boston Raiders, he and Ilya are thrown into closer extended proximity than ever before. As they adjust to life as teammates, they are forced to contend with the nature of their relationship -and must answer for themselves: is it even a relationship at all?
____Sliding down the wall, Shane hunched over his untied sneakers, shoved on hastily when Coach had called him in for a meeting after morning skate.
“Boston wanted you specifically. I’ve already spoken to their GM. You’re flying this evening or tomorrow morning: I’ll confirm once the paperwork clears.”
“Mom,” Shane managed.
“Oh sweetie. I know, okay. Those fuckers, how dare they do this! Two fucking cups! Now all of a sudden they decide they want a reset and you’re going to fund it.”
Shane put his head between his knees and tried to breathe. God, Boston. They hated him there; it was so far away; he was fucking their captain.
