She leaned her cheek against his back as the bike took off. Before she met him she would have been shocked at even the idea of getting onto some man’s motorbike to go wherever he decided they were going. But she didn’t feel threatened by Jason, not in the least. She felt safer around him than she had in a long time.
“Okay?” he called over his shoulder as they slowed to a stop at some lights.
“Okay!”
She wondered if her instincts were leading her astray. She wasn’t stupid, the 200 pounds of man between her legs was obviously very dangerous. The scars on his knuckles were impossible to miss.
But he treated her so carefully, so gently. Like a little bird in his large hands, delicate heartbeat fluttering a mile a minute.
She could blush at just how much she liked it.

So Sebastian had the worst possible opinion of him. At least that should make Haley see reason that just because two guys turned out to be gay in the same valley, it did not mean they were in any way attracted to each other.
Which was of course why the first thing Haley said to him once they sat together in their next class, was, “He’s so attracted to you!”
“How did you get there from ‘I think Alex is a meathead jock'?” Alex sighed, rubbing his temples. “I overheard all of that, by the way.”
“Good, then you must also have heard how he praised your good looks!”
“You mean when he said that I’m way too concerned with them and it made me stupid?”
Haley waved her pencil about, like a teacher trying to explain a difficult concept. “It’s about reading between the lines!”
“Look - I’m not good at reading the lines, period. I’m not sure what you want me to find between them.”
“Love!” Haley proclaimed, throwing her arms up. “And a handjob!"

Here are the rules to survive as a civilian in Gotham City:
The first rule is to keep your head down. Don't draw attention to yourself. Don't make eye contact. Walk briskly and with purpose. Don't wear anything flashy that can be stolen and most certainly do not walk down that dark alley.
The second rule is don't be a hero. Avoid confrontations. Walk the other way when you see a standoff. Don't try to help that man getting beat up in the alley, because odds are you'll get killed right along with him. Gotham City has Batman for a reason.
The third and most important rule is this: Don't get involved with superheroes.
Or in your case, gun-toting vigilantes.
