But this is a different world. In this world, he says 'I love you' to a goddess and it is a lie. He says 'I love you', and only does it in fear of being hurt.
He gets a punch to the gut for his troubles.

Percy Jackson as he clung to the ledge above the pit felt way too similar to his first quest. But as he hangs on a few more moments Percy realizes what Bacchus meant in Kansas. This is his role alone in the prophecy. But alone means a chance to finally let loose without fear of harming those he is loyal to. He realizes something else, fate rights itself, he hadn’t fallen into the pit in the first quest but he is here now.
