The Avatar is gone.
Katara was taken by the Southern Raids at only 14 years old and brought to the Fire Nation capital, where she was forced to become a sex worker in the capital's Red Houses.

On Zuko's eighteenth birthday he finally does it.
He packs up everything and leaves his childhood home behind, away from his abusive father to forge his own path in life. He leaves behind his fancy muscle car, his room the size of a small apartment, and cuts off every last tie he has to Ozai; including his financial ties.
Before he starts college, Zuko realizes that he has no idea how to not have money. That money doesn't just magically spawn in his wallet anymore. He needs someone to teach him how to be poor. Because what, exactly, is student loan debt?
"Katara I thought you said we were having a struggle meal."
"We are!"
"That's not a meal, that's just a tortilla with butter."

By the end of the weekend, Zuko is on his third attempt at something that should really only need one.
A phone call drags him out of the lowest point of his life-- a call from his bestfriend Sokka who reaches out to Zuko to recruit his help in protecting his little sister from a psychotic ex.
Zuko spends a weekend with Katara and they bond over music and life, and find that everyone just needs a shoulder to cry on to make things alright.
Based on the short film 'Curfew', and movie adaptation 'Before I Disappear.'
