Summary
There was a lot that Klaus didn't understand—he wouldn't be humble or play pretend and say that he knew all the secrets of the universe, that was just ridiculous.
But there were things he did understand, albiet small, but still things.
He knew that Ben was a ghost, he didn't really understand the how or why, but Ben was as present as any of the others, so it must mean he existed.
He knew that being an addict was weak, selfish, a burden to all those around, all the buzz words group therapists shoved down his throat. However, he also knew that it helped in some cases.
He knew that his family hated him, loathed the fact that he was alive, a stain on their academy name. Although that was squandered long before he did any damage.
But what he really knew, cemented into his brain, carved into the very marrow of his bones, was that he was not long for this world.
It just wasn't meant to be.
Or, an AU where Klaus causes the apocalypse with a build up all the way from his childhood.
