“Do you have it?” He gestures around, then points at Ilya’s gloves.
Ilya shrugs, then looks at the ice, then shrugs again.
“Did you swallow it?” The trainer looks more panicked at that.
Ilya shrugs once again, then lowers his gloves some more, and slowly, very slowly, opens his fingers. They’re empty.
“There!” Marlow points excitedly, then suddenly he’s on all fours on the ice, pulling off a glove, and picking something up.
A moment later and he’s on his knees, gently holding out Ilya’s right front tooth like it’s a ring and they’re getting fucking married.

Summary
When Shane lets himself think about what it might be like at All Stars, there's a blurry gap where he's standing. Ilya will be wearing something stylish and sexy — probably a shiny shirt that makes Shane want to grab him and never let go. There's nothing Shane owns that fits in that category.
But Reebok and Rolex have both had him work with stylists for appearances in the past. He pulls up the photos of those events, and flips through the photos. He sends them to Rose.

The next direct flight from Montreal to Moscow leaves around five a.m. He looks up at the clock in the top corner of his phone screen, thinking. It's close eleven now. Ilya must still be on Boston time if he's up that early. He hits "add to cart" before he can stop himself and the next thing he knows, he's got a flight confirmation code in his email.
OR : Shane goes to Russia for Ilya's father's funeral. And the Russian confession is said to his face instead of over the phone.

The cottage faced east, like a church. When the sun set it did not flood the living room like it did in the morning, but peaked through the trees and the back windows to leave irregular shapes of light on the floor, the furniture, and Shane Hollander’s thighs. Ilya observed the scene from the kitchen; his boyfriend, his boyfriend, lying naked on the couch, flat on his stomach, eyes closed, half asleep and a little flushed mark between his shoulder blades where Ilya had kissed him so hard it broke tiny blood vessels under his skin.
