Summary
For his uni project, Phil Lester needs to write a romance script. For the sake of realism, he decides to base it on something familiar: his grumpy, emotionally unavailable law student roommate.
Dan Howell does not believe in love. He definitely does not believe in romance. And he absolutely does not agree to being turned into one.
But as Phil starts writing, capturing small moments, quiet routines, things that shouldn’t mean anything, it becomes harder to ignore how little he’s actually changing. Because the problem with writing a love story about real life is that, at some point, you have to decide where the fiction ends… and what it means if it never did.
(or: Phil writes a romance for class. Dan accidentally ends up in it. This is, unfortunately, not hypothetical.)

Phil had been good. He’d been funny and entertaining, and he’d tied Dan’s cheap-ass garter on his gorgeously plush thigh without so much as a wayward nip to the skin that was all but begging for it. Now, the sweet smell of baked goods is wafting through the air, and there's something edible on the kitchen counter, and the end screen is filmed, and Phil is no longer interested in being good.
“Dan,” he says, voice tight in his throat.
