Summary
Nancy Wheeler is counting on a stellar GPA to launch her out of Hawkins after high school, and she's not about to lose it to a mandatory group project. That's why she has to make sure her partner is fellow A student Chrissy Cunningham. Chrissy would rather work with one of her friends, but her cheerleading team needs a new member before competition, and Chrissy knows Nancy's past with ballet. She'll be a shoo-in. So, they strike up a deal. Chrissy will help Nancy get the top grade in the class, and Nancy will help Chrissy win her cheerleading competition. It's a win-win situation. It's too bad neither of them counted on catching feelings.

Nancy glances at Jonathan, then says to Steve, “I’m sorry, let me get this straight: you want to bring both of us home to your parents?”
“Yeah,” Steve says. “I mean. Why not?”
“Does that mean – ” Jonathan starts, then pauses. “Does that mean you want the three of us to…pretend to date each other?”
“We don’t have to,” Steve says far too quickly. “I mean, obviously we don’t have to. C’mon, that would be…”
He had been going to say “weird,” but at the last second, he stops. Not because it would be the wrong thing to say – though he knows it would be – but because for a bizarre moment, Steve finds himself worried that if he did say it, Nancy and Jonathan would agree with him.

“So let me get this straight,” Steve says, crossing his arms and looking at Jonathan, unimpressed. “Your little brother is acting weird – weirder than usual, I should say – and you want my help spying on him to figure out what’s wrong? Why are you asking me?”
He doesn’t say what he’s really thinking: why aren’t you asking Nancy? But judging by the way Jonathan looks away, Steve thinks Jonathan understands regardless.
Jonathan shrugs, looking embarrassed. “You’re just…good with them. The kids, I mean. And I know that Will trusts you.”
In which: Nancy is dating Jonathan, but she's also dating Steve, and Steve may or may not be developing feelings for his girlfriend's other boyfriend.
