Summary
All Regulus ever wanted to be was free, but as the heir, it was impossible. He was forced to attend balls, to keep up appearances, forced to smile and wave, forced to give up all his hopes and dreams in exchange for a gilded cage.
Out of everything in the castle the one thing that doesn’t make him want to crawl out of his skin is Remus. Remus is kind and warm and smells of tea and old books, he talks to Regulus like he is a person, not a title. Remus is the one thing that keeps him sane, the one thing he would trade everything for because Remus makes him feel free. But as much as he wishes he could give it all up he can’t, he has his duty, a responsibility that he can"t ignore, he owes it to his people. With his future kingdom crumbling around him he has to stay strong and proud. He’ll be free when he’s dead, and until then he can find freedom in stolen glances and daydreams of being selfish enough to choose himself for once.or the prongsfoot moonwater (my beloved) princess and the pauper fic that no one asked me to write.
