A dark lock of hair falls across Izzy’s forehead. “Yeah,” Ed says again and feels the words, the vows, Izzy himself, hollow out his bones, replacing marrow with something stronger, unbreakable.

He’s witty with his Scottish tongue, unafraid to use all the words his previous self would’ve wagged a finger in her face for. She tries, a bit desperately, to banish any thoughts of that low voice in other settings.
But it feels dirty, wrong and she doesn’t dare think what he’d say if he knew, if he’d be disgusted, repulsed.
