    Jango Fett is a few months Free after six years enslaved after Galidraan—and one of the first people he runs into is Obi-Wan Kenobi. The first time he sees a Jedi after Galidraan, it's a better experience than expected.

    That changes things.

    Jango didn't have friends. He had informants, and clients, and bounties, and enemies, and all the other sentients in the galaxy were people he didn’t care about. He didn't have a lot to compare with these days, just a weird, surprisingly pretty Jetii who couldn’t stay out of trouble and said that not killing people when you saw them repeatedly made you “sort of friends.”

    Jango thought that bar was a bit too low for friendship—but, again, what did he know?

    But… If there was such a thing as a “good Jetii,” then Kenobi was one of them.

    This, Jango thought, could quite possibly turn out to be the worst mess he’d ever gotten himself into. But with Obi-Wan with him… Maybe they really could find a way out of here.

    (Still, though, despite Obi-Wan’s semi-infectious optimism…
    Jango had such a bad feeling about all this.)

    Jango and Obi-Wan hijack a freighter and go on a galactic road trip to kill a man.

    or;

    Montross is a little cleverer on Korda VI. Jango ends up tossed into the cargo hold of 'The Stryker', a slaver freighter taking him to parts unknown and well out of Montross's way. Melida/Daan, weakened by its infighting and the Young suffering catastrophic losses, are raided by opportunistic slavers, resulting in Obi-Wan captured as a prize to be sold to a 'special' client - Force sensitive slaves are, after all, valuable cargo (and there is a dark shadow in the galaxy always on the look out for forgotten, powerful Force sensitives).

    By sheer luck - or maybe the Force - they're locked in cages beside each other. They plan, they escape... and the future shifts.

    Jango Fett didn't mean to restart the Mandalorian Empire. He just kept accidentally acquiring planets after their leaders proved too corrupt to leave in place. Nobody told the Republic that (or if they did, they didn't believe it), so they decide to send a tribute to the Warlord.

    Obi-Wan Kenobi, freshly knighted Jedi with a Padawan adopted in the heat of the moment, is chosen to sate the Warlord's desire for conquest. He's not happy about it, but when the senate sends him he must go. Fortunately, the unreasonably pretty warlord seems to mainly want him to do paperwork.

    And Jango Fett might just save the Galaxy for his gorgeous new Jedi assistant and his adorable feral murder child.
