Jo stood, straightening his jacket. “Don’t.”
“See you soon, Undercover Man.”
Jo turned to leave, but paused at the door. Against his better judgment, he looked back.
Yuma was still watching him, chin propped on his hand, smiling like he already knew the ending to a story Jo hadn’t realized he was in.

“Why did you?” It jumped out before Euijoo could catch it.
Nicholas smiled. “I thought you said no more questions.”
Euijoo opened his mouth, then closed it. He had nothing that sounded smart.
“Time for you to go,” Nicholas said, walking him to the door. “I have already done more talking than I like in the morning.”
Euijoo stepped to the threshold and did not cross it. The usual gnawing in his gut had gone quiet for a second, like a radio with the volume turned down. He was not ready to dial it back up. “Dinner tonight?”
Nicholas nodded. “Dinner tonight.”

Ohyul stood there for a moment, clutching the edge of his sleeve. His breathing was uneven. His eyes shone in the dark. He just climbed the mattress and laid himself into the warm space between his dads like he belonged there.
Nicholas cracked one eye open at the shift. Recognition softened his face instantly. “Oh,” he whispered. “It’s you.”
“Bad dream?” Euijoo murmured, also awake on alert, rubbing slow circles on Ohyul's back to soothe him. The boy nodded against Nicholas’s shoulder.
Where nightmares turned into a domestic family cuddle. They spent the next morning having breakfast together with laughter fulfilling love.
