“I’m telling your mom on you for bullying me,” Steve whined, taking a stupid silly tone that made Robin huff out a soft laugh and snuggle into his side impossibly further, both of them lapsing into a comfortable quiet that erased whatever lingering fear had been trying to take up space in Steve’s chest.
Quiet, not silence. It was a tiny distinction, barely there for most people, but it meant everything to the two of them. Steve and Robin were both motormouths- people who obsessively needed to fill empty spaces with music or talking or whatever sound they could find. They didn’t do well in silence.
But on nights like this- nights where Steve woke up with a gasp, shaking and stuttering out answers for questions that only ghosts were looking for answers to- he needed quiet, and he needed the only person in the world who could make quiet bearable.
