Summary
Commodore James Norrington did not believe in ghosts. He did not believe in mermaids, krakens, Davy Jones or his locker of legend. Sailors might be a superstitious lot as a whole, but James had little time for such foolishness. It only got in the way.
But when he comes face-to-face with Elizabeth Swann, who he saw lost to pirates at age 12, James is forced to reconsider his stance on the supernatural. And when she pulls him headlong into conspiracy, and as more that he'd thought gone forever rises from the dead, James begins to question everything else, too.

Summary
August, 1972. American ground troops pull out of Vietnam, with thousands more soldiers to follow. A communications hotline reopens between Seoul and Pyongyang for the first time since the Korean War. The Washington Post publishes the first article on what will become known as the Watergate scandal. And Florence Vassy and Freddie Trumper meet at the Marshall Chess Club in New York City.
As long as he lives, it will never occur to Freddie to feel silly for thinking their meeting as epic and historic as the world-changing forces at work that month. Because they changed the world too, didn’t they? He and Florence.

Granby would be off on rotation to that Chanson-de-Guerre coming up from Austria, and Laurence would gratefully take on a pleasant and biddable lieutenant. If chance brought their formations to the same covet again, well, he certainly wouldn't begrudge his future self the opportunity to be dragged into a private corner.
