Summary
June 13th, 1985, Sherrie McKinley walked across the stage of the Kokomo High School auditorium to grab her diploma. Her principal had handed her the piece of paper, rolled neatly into a slim tube and tied closed with a royal blue satin ribbon. They shook hands and smiled for the cameras just as they had rehearsed. Sherrie should've been proud. But when she looked out at the crowd, she felt nothing but emptiness.
There was no one out there to cheer her on.
The camera clicked, the flash burned her eyes, then Sherrie walked off stage, alone.
By the following evening, Friday, June 14th, Sherrie was headed to basic training.
Sherrie's first assignment would be a post not even two hours from her hometown—a military control access zone in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana. Being from Indiana all her miserable life, Sherrie had never even heard of Hawkins until 1986, when it appeared Hell had opened up and swallowed half the town in its path of destruction.
But Sherrie could be sure that her time spent in the town of Hawkins was an experience she would never forget.

Summary
Hattie’s plan is simple, and just about like every other teenager in Hawkins. Save up, and get out. But when strange occurrences start happening, each hitting closer to home than the last, Hattie has no choice but to follow her sinking suspicions that Hawkins isn’t at all what it appears to be.
No, underneath its perfect white picket fences and manufactured lawns lies something deep and dark. And it seems determined to either destroy her… or make her.
