"Well I did find out, didn’t I?" Anthony hisses back, voice raising just enough for the couple nearby to look over at them curiously. Her brother gives them a curt nod, the lines of his jaw etched with tension as the muscle near his temple ticks with the suppressed rage that simmers beneath his skin.
Sometimes she finds herself wishing he would unleash it—set it free just once—and if she happened to be swept up in the tempestuous current of it all, so be it.

Summary
Aemond has never asked Helaena about her wedding night, or any of the nights that came after. She has never told him anything about it. He doesn’t want to imagine what it was like, but he can. The pretty girl who used to work in the kitchens, the one with the curls, painted a vivid enough picture for him when he saw her stumble away from Aegon’s rooms early one morning, red-faced from crying, a dark bruise blooming on her throat.
In bed, now, Aemond often finds himself searching Helaena’s skin for similar bruises, especially now that Mother seems so eager to push her back into Aegon’s bed. Two children aren’t enough, Helaena reported back to Aemond flatly, as dispassionately as if they were discussing the weather. If Rhaenyra keeps having more children, then Aegon must have more as well. But he’s never found any, and he has looked very carefully.
