Phainon panicked... Kind of. At the bare minimum, he felt blindsided— Mydei was purposefully being combative despite Phainon having been nothing but amicable, and now he was making it sound like Phainon was the one in the wrong.

So he did the most logical thing he could think of in response, of course— acting before really thinking about it— and demonstrated his willingness to participate in what he'd personally perceived as a provocation from the Crown Prince—

He undid the knot holding the tiny modesty towel in place, the pristine white fabric falling, and with it, so did Mydeimos's gaze.

“Oh,” Mydei answered eloquently, an odd expression crossing his face as he stared, unabashedly while Phainon, much more abashedly, allowed him to.

Be it through ignorance or wishful thinking, Phainon interprets Mydei's shamelessness as a direct provocation to settle the score between them, following the event of their ten-day, ten-night battle resulting in a draw.

“Does it .. does it– bother you at all?”

Mydei’s expression softens. He steps back into Phainon’s space, but stays far enough for Phainon to push him back away if he so wished. He takes Phainon’s hand and presses it over where his heart lies. It rabbits under Phainon’s fingers. “If it bothered me, I wouldn’t want for you like this.”

At this, Phainon flushes up to his ears again, warmth bleeding into his core. He feels a wetness between his legs, and whimpers softly at Mydei’s shameless admission.

“I want you as you are, Deliverer.”

Phainon trembles, and pushes himself into Mydei’s open arms. His voice comes out as barely a whisper. “And I, you.”

    Summary

So why then, in Mydeimos’ dark bedchambers lit by the warm everflame of the underworld, laid upon the wine-red sheets of his kline, is that damn bright light here?

“Alas, I have been captured by the god of the underworld!” Phainon exclaimed in a mock, desperate tone, his light blue chiton slipping off his shoulders as he waved his rope-bound wrists, “Please lock me up and don't let me go!”

…Mydei doesn't know where his eye twitched at. It was either from the way Phainon’s chiton slipped off and showed off his unmarred, pink-dusted pale collarbone atop a muscled body, or the fact that Phainon was here, right here, waving his wrists around like Mydeimos himself had tied him up.

And of course, the most sensible thing to say at that time was, “HKS, get the fuck out of my bed.”

Phainon had the gall to gasp. A very dramatic one at that. “Look, I might be your prisoner, but I do deserve some respect.”

    “You’re in pre-heat,”

    Phainon’s world tilted.

    “What.”

“Yes, Snowy,” Hyacine said gently, taking his fever hot hand into her cool palms. Her smile was small, reassuring. “You’re going into heat. This isn’t about the Coreflames—it’s your omega.”

That word hit him like an old memory cracking open.

    His Omega?

You heard that right — Khaslana, our dear Deliverer who thought he could shrug off thirty million cycles of trauma, and most importantly his heats, is about to face the consequences. Unfortunately, his alpha partner/source of comfort — Mydei is away on important business. So of course Phainon decides not to bother him about it... but can he really?
