Summary
Was…was Mike’s heart reacting to Will?
Mike isn’t looking at him. He’s staring hard at his cards as if he hasn’t seen them before, biting his inner cheek, and accentuating his dimple. As Will looks closer, he notices the pink shade spreading over the shell of Mike’s ear, the red emerging from the black curls like a rose sprouting from the earth.
Was Mike still nervous around him? Hadn’t they resolved that?
Will decides to test it. He leans onto the bed and rests a hand on Mike’s uninjured thigh, his thumb swiping side to side over the covers, and waits.
Mike's leg twitches into his hand, and barely a moment passes before the beeps speed up again, a rapid climb from steady to sprinting, and when Will looks, the blush has spread to Mike’s cheeks, his eyes unmoving and glued to his cards.
Oh. Will gapes at the monitor, the green spiking line. That's not discomfort.
Oh. He can have some fun with this.
Or: Mike, while protecting Will, gets attacked by a demogorgon. Guilt-ridden, Will stays with him in the hospital, forcing them to resolve the awkward air that has surrounded them for months, and, along the way, uncover some truths.

"That's ok," she says. "So, have you been sleeping better?"
Mike nods.
"No more headaches?" She asks.
"Nope."
"Nightmares?"
His breath catches.

Bookmarker's Notes
The trailer park is completely deserted by the time Mike arrives, the police cars long gone, the only sign of them ever being here in the first place being the bright yellow caution tape that wraps around Eddie's trailer. Mike's not really looking there, though. Instead, he's looking towards his own front porch, where a figure sits on the front steps, a backpack and suitcase on either side of him.
Will.

“My path must change.” He said. “The opening I intended… will have to wait.”
He leaned down slightly, bringing his ruined face closer to Will’s.
“But you.” He continued softly, almost thoughtfully, “May yet serve a purpose.”

Summary
The Eye and the Hand of Vecna are living conduits through which Vecna perceives and manipulates the boundary between worlds: the Eye senses proximity, truth, and emotional resonance, while the Hand endures pain to translate that awareness into action. Together, they form a closed circuit; one that allows Vecna not just to observe, but to teach, conditioning his chosen vessels through suffering and attention rather than control.
------
After the battle at the Mac-Z, Will can feel Vecna again- not control, not visions, just pressure. Proximity. While the rest of the remaining Hawkins group are desperately trying to contact the Upside Down, Mike begins to notice a far more dangerous pattern: the closer he gets to answers, to Will, the more his body reacts. Pain becomes feedback. While the group scrambles to figure out what to do next, the reality of what Vecna has in store is subtler and crueler than they ever could've expected. Now that his connection to Will has changed, he needs to shift his method of control.
Mike has a devastating combination of a savior complex and confusion around his own feelings, especially when it comes to Will; this makes him the perfect target.
