Summary
Dean tries not to think too closely about the monsters that his father keeps. If he looks them in the eye, or speaks to them, they cease to be faceless terrors and become instead… people. People who’ve maimed and murdered humans, to be sure, but people nevertheless. Dean can’t let himself think that way. It’s easier to think of John’s prisoners as one many-limbed, faceless, fanged entity.
But when he reaches the last cell in the barn, the largest and most secure, and glimpses for the second time the creature crouching just beyond the bars, Dean knows that he won’t be able to distance himself from this one the way he does with the others. This one is different.
The angel looks up.

Summary
Castiel, freshly fired from his job, is moving to a perfectly ordinary house in a perfectly ordinary forest where he just happens to meet a perfectly ordinary guy called Dean. Sure, the house seems to be a little filled with monsters. Yes, the forest shrieks and whines at night. And without doubt, Dean saving Castiel's life is a strange kind of first date. But it's all perfectly ordinary - right?

Summary
How can he say more than the words that don’t even capture a fraction of the pain. You were dead. Three words that are too weak to hold up the agony. Cas, you were dead, and you weren’t coming back. I know because I burned the body.
“Okay, alright. You don’t need to speak. It’s alright- I’ll- I’ll just-” and then Cas is holding up a glowing hand that he moves over the vague shape of Dean’s body under the tangle of his bedsheets. “I can’t sense anything wrong. Nothing malignant, or even duress of natural causes. I don't- I don’t know what’s happening.”
Cas, man, it’s actually not as bad as it seems. I think I’m having a panic attack.
