Summary
It was an early July afternoon when the Marauders heard of the death of Severus Snape. Word spreading through the small, slightly rural, British town like an infection. While technically it was still a missing persons case, they all knew Snape was already dead.

The man looked startled. “Me?”
“You.”
“Well, I—I, erm—”
“You obviously care what happens to him,” the vet said. “And he’s obviously desperately in need of a good home. I’m surprised he hasn’t starved to death by now.”
The man’s face grew pinched. “Shite.” He shook his head once, twice, three times. “What all do I need?”

Snape recoiled. “That’s not funny.”
“I don’t know any Al,” Sirius said irritably. “And I don’t know why you would be here at my bloody bedside even if Grimmauld Place did have a quidditch pitch, and if you haven’t forgotten we’re on opposite sides of a bloody war!”

Summary
He can talk to Petey in a way he can’t talk to the others. He can tell Petey just about anything and trust that he’ll get it. Or at least won’t be weird about it.
Maybe that does make him Mark’s favourite. That’s okay, though, isn’t it? It’s okay to have a best friend. It’s normal. He’s lucky to have a best friend.

I set the fire, Mizu had confessed thickly into Taigen's ear, when their mouths were still filled with ash, eyes half-sealed with tears from acrid smoke.
Did you have a choice? Taigen had asked as a response, hauling them forward another step across a bridge, toward another life.
Mizu had fallen silent—so silent that Taigen lifted his chin in worry that he had drawn his final breath without Taigen's permission.
No, the not-samurai had told him then. I did not have a choice.
And Taigen believed it.
