Summary
It’s Sunday evening, it’s the first rain of the season, and the kitchen is in quite possibly the most disarray it’s been since Alan has lived here.
As it pours outside, thunder rumbling in the distance, he squints at Mrs. Hong’s handwritten recipe for khao niao mamuang, which is the final endeavor in the maybe-too-long list of dishes Gaipa has been making for dinner. They’ve invited everyone over today, and the flurry of preparations has been on for hours: they already spent the morning cleaning every corner of the house, and even though the whole thing was rather exhausting and unglamorous and Alan extensively contemplated whether they should downsize, none of it really felt like a chore. How could it? They put some 80s hits on the record player and turned the volume all the way up, they danced around with mops and feather dusters and pretended to be superstars, and if a few makeout sessions were peppered in here and there - well, it was fine so long as it served as a means of motivation.

Gaipa cups his face and brushes over his cheekbone, his expression mellowing. “I don’t ever want to be without you,” he says softly, his voice nearly breaking over the words.
Affection swells within Alan like a ripening fruit. As he kisses Gaipa’s palm, something dawns on him, colossal, bright, and incomparably lovely; and despite its suddenness, its pull is so strong that Alan has no choice but to say it aloud. “P’Gaipa,” he starts, his heart in his throat.
Gaipa gazes up at him, clear and shimmering. “Hmm?”

Summary
Alan sighed, resting his head on the door and trying to catch up his breath. Gaipa could feel his eyes on him again. His glasses had survived the storm thanks to his improvised cover, but his hair was dishevelled and pointing in every direction. His gaze was intense but soft, leaving Gaipa even more breathless. He looked lost in thought. Gaipa was about to ask him.
But then, “I love you.”
Gaipa’s heart skipped a beat. He had made peace with the fact that it may take longer for Alan to say it. That he would wait until he was ready to give his full heart again.
But he had said it.
Not in a hurry. Not like an afterthought. Just as something that he no longer could hide. Something too big for him to leave unsaid.
Gaipa smiled. Heart full, butterflies wild in his stomach. “I love you, too.”
