She had spent years (that’s right years!!!) cultivating her friendship with Regina and had fought tooth and nail to earn the compassion and loyalty that Regina kept hidden and protected and now here she was smiling at everyone, offering unlimited support, compliments and jokes.

The green thread was still in her palm. She wound it around her finger, tight enough to leave a faint impression. The door to their room creaked as it opened, and Glinda startled, sitting up too quickly and blinking into the light.
She half-expected to see an angular figure in the doorway, arms crossed, lips twitching with suppressed amusement.
It was just Nessarose, though, thin and sharp-eyed as ever, balancing a stack of papers on her knee. She looked at Glinda for a long moment before speaking. It struck Glinda, fleetingly, how similar her eyes were to Elphaba's. She hadn't noticed before.
“They’re saying she killed a man,” Nessarose said flatly, tensile voice landing somewhere between clarity and fragility. “Did you know that?”
Glinda returns to Shiz.
