Summary

Summary
“You know,” the shopkeeper says thoughtfully, looking at the stone in Lumine’s hand with a strange interest. “There’s a story behind that jewel too.”
“Oh, really?” Lumine gives her a strained smile because she sees Mona through the corner of her eye inspecting another glass orb that’ll probably cost another month of groceries. But Lumine doesn’t voice that because she has this thing with conflict where she will bend over backwards for literally any person in any situation to avoid it. This includes strangely spooky shopkeepers who seem a little too delighted to have a potential customer.
“They say that a God is trapped in there.”
There’s a tale that goes like this: there once was a God who challenged their Creator.
Except Lumine is neither a God, nor a Creator, nor a hero, ruler, sage, or some other Jungian archetype. No, Lumine is a burnt-out college kid who’s somehow managed to keep it together just enough to convince everyone she’s not on the verge of a mental breakdown every 4.7 seconds.
Oh, and also God is a gremlin.
Suffice to say, this tale is screwed.

"Guess," Scaramouche says, voice low and smooth, and he’d make a good tenor, she thinks absentmindedly as her mind catches on the indigo of his eyes, the graceful slope of his jaw, the way his features sit on him in such a known memory—
"Why are you looking at me in that way? Caught by my good looks?" Scaramouche murmurs, and his mood is so mercurial, boiling over with anger one second, then cool with sarcasm, then friendly to the point of nauseating, shifting like desert dunes in a sandstorm. And now, his face is too close, cheek almost touching hers as he whispers into her ears, warm breath ghosting over the shell of her ear, "At this rate, I’m going to think you’d like a goodbye kiss."
