Rooster doesn’t move, just holds him tighter. His fingers are rubbing slow circles on his scalp, and Maverick can’t help the shiver that runs through him.
“Is this okay? I just… It felt right. You looked like you needed it.”
Without meaning to, he can feel his body relax into the embrace. He rests his head on Rooster’s chest and revels in the slow, steady beat against his cheek. “It’s good,” he says, and it comes out as barely a whisper, breathed out into the soft fabric of his t-shirt. It’s an old thing, with the name of some baseball team printed on it. It smells like sweat, aftershave and toothpaste. Like Rooster. Like home.
