Summary
Wetting your lips a little, you give a small shake of your head. “No, that's not better.” Your dramatic pause is less for effect and more so you can silently pray you haven't misread the situation. “Try it again without sounding like such a brat.”
His eyes actually widen. Watching him scramble to regain composure is more amusing than it should be, though you feign disinterest when he stays silent for long enough that you want to try and get him a bit more riled up. Either that or for him to call it and reign things back in, set the line so you both know where you stand.
“I’m sorry, ma’am.” He bows his head and looks up at you through his lashes. If his voice weren’t so steady, slightly breathless, you’d think he was messing about. “Truly, I am. Please forgive me.”
