It started on an evening like any other. Master Warden Palamedes Sextus and his cavalier Camilla Hect were in their quarters, reclining on their bed. Technically, it was Palamedes’s bed. Camilla’s bed was in the small adjacent room, but she had slept in it only very rarely in the five years they had occupied the Warden’s Quarters.
