Summary
“Robby’s fine.” Robby realized they were still shaking hands, slow up and down, and managed to pull his hand back. “You’re, uh. Abbot?”
“Two b’s, one t, that’s me,” Jack had responded, grin still there. “Jack’s fine, though.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“It is, isn’t it?” Jack’s confident, tilted-back expression surprised another laugh out of Robby. The next one came easier. The next breath, too.
That kept happening for the next five years: Jack, talking him through it, making him laugh unexpectedly. Robby returned the favor when he could, and came up in the morning when Jack needed another body around to help him back up from the ledge. It worked. They worked, the two of them.
As should be expected, this fic deals with suicidality of various levels of active-ness. Also the normal triggers for the show apply. Take care of yourselves.

Summary
“I appreciate you sharing that with me,” Robby slowly says, picking his words with care. “Objectively, and with love, that’s the saddest defense of therapy I’ve ever heard.”
“It worked. How about I buy you a drink after each session? The bar’s close to the therapist’s office.”
“You’ve got better things to do on your day off.”
“Not really,” Abbot says, and he smiles at Robby’s surprise. “The nachos aren’t half bad.”
---
After months of ducking and digging in heels, Robby finally starts seeing a therapist. Abbot's therapist. It's inadvisable, sure, but it seems to be working. At least, until their deepening relationship dredges up feelings which Abbot thought had died with his husband.Bookmarked by squidnapped

Summary
“Robby returned the bottle to the nightstand and turned back to the bed, where Jack was sleeping on his side, facing away from Robby toward the bedroom door. Earlier, Robby had noticed Jack was shirtless, but that was a common occurrence; Jack had always run hot. Now, with his eyes adjusted to the dim room, Robby took in the way the sheet rested low on Jack’s hips, just covering the swell of his ass, Jack bare beneath the sheet. Coupled with the two bottles on the nightstand, Robby understood the scene for what it was: an invitation.”

Summary
Weeks later, long after Mila has flown to Philly, a thick envelope waits for him. Her handwriting arcs across it in precise, flawless calligraphy, and delicate flowers, hand-painted in soft watercolors, frame the edges. Robby picks it up, smiling, and then freezes. The first line reads:
"To Mr. Michael Robinavitch and Mr. Jack Abbot"
The words hit him square in the chest. He stares at the impossible, spectacular, irrecoverable lie he’s created. And just like that, he knows: he is utterly fucked.
Or: Robby pretends he’s dating Jack when he comes out to his sister. Now Jack is his plus-one for her wedding, and he seems more than happy to keep up the act.

Summary
The car was no longer horizontal. It was twisted, crunched. God knew what they’d hit. The floor sloped sharply, littered with shattered glass. Smoke hung thick, mixing with the copper tang of blood and scorched plastic.
Emergency lights flickered, casting everything in a stuttering red glow like a battlefield lit by fire.
Jack’s therapist would have a field day.
Then the realization of where he was going this morning came to him. A meeting downtown. No, where were they going?
“Robby?” he rasped.

Summary
It wasn’t the first time, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. It was ordinary, part of both their continued white-knuckled grip on the edge of life. Keeping it together. Sometimes you just couldn’t carry it alone. Sometimes you needed someone to stand by you, to fill the air with words until the world righted itself, to walk beside you back onto solid ground.
Sometimes, unfortunately, it was that person’s day off, and you had to drag yourself off the roof.
Jack kept drifting.
He wanted it all to stop.
He craved silence.
Stillness.
Darkness.
The world was too damn bright.
...
Jack has a rough night and goes to find Robby. Robby tries to keep Jack grounded, however he can.

Serious but not exclusive, Jack says. When Robby finally does ask her out — and she will maybe never know if Jack had a hand in that — she thinks of their burgeoning relationship along the same lines. That makes it something new.

Summary
Robby frowned and looked at Jack. "Is it me or are you now off Monday through Thursday?"
"Yeah, I figure we can drive out Tuesday morning and come back in time for my shift Friday night."
Robby's eyebrows rose in surprise. "Did someone invite you to the cabin I rented?" Jack tilted his head and just looked at Robby, silent and expectant. After a long moment, Robby huffed a resigned laugh, like he wondered why he even bothered protesting. "Jack, would you like to come hiking with me?"
