It matters not whether he actually cares about Qifrey’s career choices. If it were simply that, then he wouldn’t bother having this conversation whatsoever. The problem lies in the desire to leave; the desire to abandon the society that had given him a home in the first place. Nothing is stopping Qifrey from teaching within the Assembly, but as is to be expected, he is ungrateful.
Regardless of whatever affection he can claim to possess, that is something Easthies cannot forgive.

She stills for a moment, before picking you up and holding you close to her. It’s rare for her to hold you like this, but because you are a child, you do not question it. The smell of her perfume is fragrant and comforting, and you cling onto its warmth. “You are too young, my dear.” She responds, her voice cracking ever-so-slightly. “But if you really want, I can ask your father.”

Summary
There’s no point in delaying the inevitable, so Felix takes Sylvain’s free hand into his, and tries to commit the feeling to memory. “You say that you’ll love me no matter what.” He says after a moment, tracing the lines of Sylvain’s palm. “But what happens if we end up fighting each other?”
Sylvain lifts Felix’s hand and gently kisses it.
“Even then, I’d find a way.”
“You really are an idiot, then.” Felix laughs, simple and honest and far more unrestrained than he expected. “for thinking that war won’t change us.”

Summary
It hurts to think about all of it in detail, especially when the words coming out of Dimitri’s mouth don’t match the reality of the world around them. He speaks about his father and Glenn even though they’re both dead, of summers spent in Fhirdiad even though it’s been years since any of them have spent one together—of memories tainted by loss, stained by a grief that never seems to leave them.

Summary
When Sylvain is six and a half and climbs to the top of a tower with no one’s hand in his, he realizes that each and every one of the people he loves has been born as a gift to something else. Dimitri was born for Faerghus, and Felix was born for Dimitri. Glenn was born for the royal family, and Ingrid was born for Galatea and for Glenn. He realizes, too, that what they’re for decides their future. Dimitri will lead them into a better world. Felix will guide his path, and Glenn will protect his life, and Ingrid will bind her future to theirs.
And Sylvain, who was born for the border, will stand in a watchtower. He will see the enemy before it comes, and he will keep Dimitri and Felix and Ingrid and Glenn safe.
Dimitri reappears after five years. Sylvain knows it's his role to fix the mess they're in, but he doesn't know how.Bookmarked by starchisa

Summary
Felix hasn’t seen Sylvain in eleven months, not that he’s counting, but he’d still recognize him anywhere. He always did take up all the air in any room. Now he’s doing it even outdoors. Felix can’t breathe.
He counts to five. He remembers how to inhale and exhale. He abandons his bags and stalks over so that his shadow falls over Sylvain, folding his arms over his chest.
“You don’t go to this school,” Felix says accusingly, by way of hello.

Sylvain and Felix fake date at Christmas. It goes about as predictably as you’d expect.
