    Kakashi doesn't care about people's kekkei genkai - he can't copy them with the sharingan, and in general they are just a tedious side effect to already annoying battles. He'll learn about them as much as he can for tactical advantage, but beyond that he can't care less.

    That is, until one chuunin demonstrates a bloodline limit that Kakashi can't stop thinking about. Or hearing.

    Hatake Kakashi might be a little obsessed.

    How do I describe the story? Kakashi is very obsessed at first with Iruka‘s blood limit, the echolocation. Slowly he gets to know him and he develops a crush/obsession. This is a case of Iruka fell 1st and Kakashi fell harder. It’s all Kakashi’s POV. Along with the slow burn, we have the added mystery of Kohari being from Mist and an Anbu and having the echolocation blood limit.

    Ch 14, they finally talked and are mostly on the same page! Iruka was put through a torturous psych eval.

    If you asked anyone in Konoha about the relationship between Umino Iruka and Hatake Kakashi, they would probably shudder. As far as anyone knows, they were born hating each other.

    Konohagakure has a shinobi problem. War and the kyuubi attack has left the Village sagging under the weight of too many mouths to feed with too little work available. Just off the chopping block of the chuunin exams, Iruka hasn’t been able to enjoy a moment’s peace without worrying when he’ll snag the next mission to cover rent, all while Hound dogs his footsteps.

    But down a damp street where neon signs flash in mosaic puddles, across from a rundown 24-hour laundromat, in the back of a dingy bar, sits a machine that’s the closest thing to magic Iruka has ever seen.

    But what Iruka can’t see reflected in its flickering screen will open a can of worms he couldn’t possibly predict.

    Ooof, this almost seemed like a slice of life story. Featuring hot mess Iruka getting very attached to an arcade game “Scroll Hunter” to escape the sucky reality of his life. But then Iruka stumbled upon the gang that steal from shinobi warehouses to sell stuff on the Black market. So sort of a case fic too. I like how Iruka is very good at seals even though he is self taught. This is an AU, Anko has more snake like features and the 3rd never really took an interest in Iruka.

    Pre-genin Iruka goes to a cave to find a legendary hair braid said to grant wishes. Turns out there really is something in the cave system. A box/tomb? With seals all over it. A Cave painting featuring a woman with a long braid and oni/stone golems? All around her. Hound is the unlucky ANBU sent to retrieve him. Not because he’s missing.but because Iruka stole barrier seals and explosive tags from the Academy. After surviving cave ins and monsters together. They come friends. Very scary/tense but also cute.
