Summary
“It’s just—this is the first time in my life that everything has been right. For any substantial amount of time. And I’m afraid if this one thing changes, what if other things start to fall apart too? What if us having this deed to this town is the glue that’s holding my life together?”

Summary
Whoever said that New York was a big city has obviously never had to try to live there after a breakup. The twenty-two square miles of Manhattan feels like nothing when David sees Patrick everywhere. The coffee shop on the corner where they met, the Italian place in the West Village where they had their second date, even the sign for the C train that Patrick used to take from his job in the Financial District to David’s gallery in Soho. David sees Patrick’s face in all of it.
David and Patrick broke up months ago, but living with the memories has been hard for them both.

Summary
Patrick had never given much thought to what a miracle David’s hands are, not until now, as he’s sliding a single gold band over David’s left ring finger. David’s hands are soft and smooth where Patrick’s are rough and calloused, and yet, they’re quick and clever and capable. David’s hands have taken Patrick apart and held him together. Their hands together have built this life up brick by brick.
For the prompt: calloused hands in soft hands
