She’s sitting on a rock when she sees him.
A boy, no older than she is, with hair as white as hers is black. He’s standing off to the side of the little bridge that crosses the smaller section of the water, with a fierce expression too old for his youthful face.
It isn’t until he turns and faces her that she realizes she’s been studying him far longer than what her mother and sister would say is polite. Nevertheless, she holds her gaze steady as she stares back into his eyes. Karin was never one to spook easily, and especially not because of some boy. No matter how icy his stare is, and despite the shiver that runs down her spine.

Grimmjow found this out on a regular Thursday, when he’d been watching a game show and Ururu had told him, “I broke a guy’s hand”. After high fiving over it he’d asked what he’d done to deserve it, since Ururu definitely wasn’t the type to start fights, expecting her to tell him something along the lines of “he had a knife” or something. Instead, what he got was “he grabbed my ass in the subway.”
Because, apparently, men simply did that to strange women. And they hadn’t even always had the right to vote!? Which, Grimmjow didn’t particularly care about that, as far as he was concerned, you had to be the strongest to rule, but humans were fucking weird creatures, who chose their leaders with pieces of paper.
Whatever. Back to the point. Sexism. That was the point."
