Summary
Shadow is neither stupid nor in denial. He knows he has an unhealthy relationship with food, and has for as long as he can remember. There is no “it’ll just be this once,” no “it’s not that bad” – it won’t and it is. He skips meals regularly, sometimes for days on end, and when he does eat, no matter what or how much, it’s likely to be purged later. He sheds excessively, his claws are peeling, and he feels fatigued. He is sick. He knows this and has long accepted it as his reality. In a way, it gives him a sense of accomplishment, even. Still, it catches him off guard when someone calls attention to it.

“Is he gonna die?” Sonic asks, and Maddie snorts. If he didn’t feel like that was still a possibility, Shadow probably would’ve rolled his eyes, but right now he’s kind of wondering the same thing.
“No, Sonic, Shadow’s not gonna die,” She reassures him. “He’s just sick. Shadow?”
He lifts his head to look at her, but can’t quite bring himself to say anything yet. This is all so incredibly pathetic. He feels like shit, he’s embarrassed, he smells like sweat and vomit, Tom and Maddie have to clean up after and take care of him like he’s a toddler, and Sonic is watching all of it. Shadow feels like he’s living in a nightmare.
