If Hangman is intimidated, he gives no indication. In fact, he seems to grasp what Rooster is asking immediately; that stupid smirk curls the sides of his lips as he raises his chin in challenge. “This isn’t a game, Rooster. It’s just life.” The smirk widens. “Well, life and death.”

Reki bursts out laughing. “Oh, Miya? He was just being a brat, joking around… I think,” he adds, unsure.
“Oh. I thought it might mean something specific in Japanese.”
Reki purses his lips, humming. “Hmm… I guess I don’t really know what he meant.” He drums his fingers on the handlebars and then snickers. “Though he did say he’d be your cat or dog if he lost, so maybe you could ask him!”
“I don’t want him to be my dog, he’s a child.”
Langa sounds deadpan as always, yet his tone curls in Reki’s gut. Maybe it’s how close he is to his ear. Maybe it’s how he put just the slightest emphasis on the word him.

When Richie opens the door to his apartment well past midnight after a long day of rehearsal, he expects it to be dark inside but for the oven light.
What he doesn’t expect is to see his roommate getting absolutely railed on his Barcalounger by a strange man with a goatee.
“R-Richie!!” Eddie exclaims, his eyes flying wide.
“Aw, hell!” the stranger exclaims.
“Oh, no!” Richie exclaims, to complete the trifecta of idiotic exclamations, and slams the door shut.

“Well, I mean…” Richie starts, as if this entire situation was like any other reasonable discussion he’s had. “We can, if you really want to. I’m game.”
Eddie chokes on the coffee that was still running down his throat. He looks at Richie as if he’d just grown several heads. Surely it couldn’t be this simple, right? “Um, what?”
Richie remains nonchalant. “Roommates with benefits, you said? Not the worst idea ever.”
(Or, Eddie and Richie are roommates in college and one day decide to start casually hooking-up. Things go about as well as expected.)

He’s so close. But Buck’s face sways even closer, eyes laser-focused on Eddie’s mouth, like he wants to ensure that what he whispers next make its way inside:

Eddie flinches like the words hit skin. For a second, all the noise in his head goes silent, leaving gaping awareness and the awful, naked feeling of being seen.
“W-what—” Eddie’s voice cracks and he’s trying to frown, trying to be mad, but he feels exposed, so his words come out broken, quiet and confused. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
