“Fuck me,” said Shirley Dander, having opened the door not a second too early. “Is this, like, an HR violation?”
“Not sure.” Louisa appeared behind her. “Who is violating what?”
“I think we are, actually,” Shirley said. “Cartwright, I need to talk you into something.”
“Right.” River, happy to leave the situation, followed her outside.
When suddenly there's a shot at redemption for Louisa Guy, she’ll begrudgingly accept, if only to distract herself from her ongoing grief. Also grieving? River Cartwright. Shaken by revelations about his family, he is approached by Second Desk with a dubious deal concerning an old “friend”. But if you ask Shirley Dander, nobody’s worse off than her, especially after the loss of her only friend. Last but not least, a newly resurrected James Webb has gained a second (or third?) lease on life leading him to cross paths with the Slow Horses in ways that might alter their lives, for better or for worse. Four people, four ways to grief, only one way the story can end.

"This assassin has no obvious ideological motivation. All the targets are different ages, sexes, ethnicities, occupations. They didn’t know each other. There’s no clear connection linking them other than being the types of people someone would believably pay a decent amount of money to get rid of. But the deaths themselves, they don’t have a signature, but there’s a certain...style to them.”

Summary
Fire is the third novel in a trilogy of Brokeback Mountain-inspired novels. Earthquake is the first novel, Storm is the second novel, and they are posted both on the Archive of Our Own and on my Live Journal: jenna_hilary.livejournal.com. Each novel follows directly from the events of the previous novel, with only a few days between them. Readers should dive into Earthquake first before they pick up Storm, and they should read Storm before they read Fire.
The year is 1984. Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar have moved together to Eagle Nest, New Mexico. Jack has a job at a cattle feedlot, Ennis is foreman at a small horse ranch, and Ennis trains problem horses in the pasture behind their leased house. Here, in the twenty-first year of their tumultuous relationship, Jack and Ennis learn how to live together.

Summary
The time is November 1983. Ennis has sent a postcard to Jack asking that they meet up in the mountains at Pine Creek. Months before, Jack has said, “I wish I knew how to quit you.” Ennis has said, “I’m nothing. I’m nowhere. I just can’t stand this anymore.”

Summary
There’s a plot of land that would have property development on it by now, maybe housing, or by the grace and rare intervention of God it could even be empty, but regardless, once upon a time they would’ve built a ranch, and they would have lived and they would have loved. It’s enough to almost make him smile.
