A little curl of anxiety twists in his gut. What if saying I love you changes things, and not for the better?
The push, the pull, the rush of their harried days could certainly be the thing that kept Ilya attached to this thing of theirs. Shane’s already admitted that it hasn’t been about the rebellion of it all for him for a while - but Ilya’s made no such disclosures. A burning love confession isn’t exactly as electrifying as the thrill of the chase, after all - and - great, Shane realizes that Ilya came out of the shower to Shane doing the fucking dishes like some bland housewife instead of a sexy Casanova waiting to pounce him for what should be a manically sex-crazed weekend, or whatever.
Shane’s apt brain quickly concocts a secondary plan.
Because while Shane Hollander might be bad at relaxing, what he’s not bad at?
Being a freak in the sheets.

Summary
Montréal are playing dirty, and Shane is going to have the bruises to show for it.
Part of Shane gets it — he wouldn’t want to lose the Stanley Cup to his former captain on home ice, either. The other party of him is dizzyingly angry and upset. Somewhere inside him is a slowly healing wound, and the Metros are picking at the scab.
The Centaurs go after the Cup, Montreal go after Shane, and Ilya goes looking for trouble.
