Summary
The White Tower is designed like tapestry. The individual halls and chambers make no sense until visualized as aesthetically pleasing plots of color. The halls waltzed you around whoever you were trying to avoid or find in long, stately sweeps instead of depositing you at efficient right angles into a room convenient enough to escape into—and then half an hour later, lost halfway up some forsaken staircase, you’d glance down and understand that the entire thing had been laid out to form say, a graceful fan of ogees around a single toilet, all visible only from above.
(At the end of the Third Age, two girls come to the White Tower, one leaves in disgrace and one in glory, and the Wheel weaves them together in between.)
