"Kaveh," he murmurs, moving his hand to stroke at the blonde's tresses. "Please come eat, and then I'll rest with you."
Alhaitham doesn't plead - he doesn't beg or grovel - but for Kaveh he was damn near close.
He quietly sits at the table as Alhaitham sets a dish in front of him. His eyes are too unfocused to make out the meat and vegetables, but he recognizes the Fatteh at the side of the plate and his heart aches.
He knows it's not Alhaitham's favorite thing to eat, yet he made it anyways. For Kaveh.
And all Kaveh's done is sob in his arms.

Summary
“The footsteps grew closer, momentarily quiet. Alhaitham took a breath and let it out, slow, at the prospect of another dramatic scene. He needed to ensure Azar believed he wasn’t faking. If Azar finds out he was pretending, the entire plan is ruined, and his life would be in extreme danger. He must pretend, no matter what. The footsteps draw close, then stop outside of the door.
“No…Alhaitham? Is that really you?” Kaveh asks shakily, and his heart plummets to the ground.”

Alhaitham knows that the entire plan depends entirely on Azar believing he was no longer a threat. Unfortunately for him, Azar has no reservations in his cruelty to test his resolve.
Kaveh was having a pretty good week overall - spoiled quickly by the knowledge that his roommate, best friend and love interest had irrevocably lost his mind.

"I don't feel well," Alhaitham says. "So I would appreciate it if you got to the point."
Cyno sighs. "There has been an... incident with the Kshahrewar expedition," he says. "Someone reconnected the nearby Ruin Golem's power systems, and its weapon systems reactivated."
"Kaveh," Alhaitham murmurs, a little too dizzy to keep himself from verbalizing that first thought.
Cyno grimaces. "He helped several students escape the area, but he didn't leave himself."
Alhaitham's head throbs. He rubs at his sinuses. "Of course he didn't," he says. It's Kaveh. "He went into the Golem, didn't he?"
Cyno sighs. "The students said that he did, in fact, go into the Golem."
Alhaitham has the flu. Unfortunately, Kaveh has need of Alhaitham.
