It starts with the food.
At first, Kaveh doesn’t think anything of it.
He comes home a few times to Alhaitham saying he’s cooked dinner, or how he’s found some market stall on his way home from work, and somehow there's always leftovers for Kaveh. It’s an oddly kind gesture, but Kaveh doesn’t think too much of it. He’s well aware of the more traditional courting rituals, but he sincerely doubts that Alhaitham cares for them. He probably doesn’t even realize that an alpha gifting food to an omega constantly like this could be seen as courting.

Despite that, it seems he's not the only one who knows how to play this game, for in the next moment she gently bumps her knee into Kaveh’s. The movement makes her already short skirt slip up even higher. That causes some reaction out of Kaveh; a mere clear of the throat before he asks her if she likes the new draft. Red lips curl up into a coy smile before she takes a sip of her wine and answers Kaveh’s question, as if she had done nothing wrong. “I’m going for a swim,” Kaveh says. “I refuse to suffer in this heat any longer.”
Not far off their camp lies a crystalline lake. Its surface had seemed so inviting when they passed it by earlier. Alhaitham finds himself longing for it now, to cool off and to wash away the smoke of the fire that clings to him like a curse. He rises to his feet, fighting the slight unsteady sway of the alcohol in his veins. He feels Kaveh watch him, and refuses to make eyecontact. Instead, he busies himself with clearing away the bottles that lie scattered around the fire.
Then, Kaveh speaks up with a softness that catches Alhaitham slightly off guard. “Won’t you join me?”Or: They wish they'd never done it. And then they do it again.
